Choosing Your First Digital Camera

Choosing a Digital CameraDon’t have a digital camera yet and need to know which one will be your first? You could begin by asking friends or family members what factors they considered when buying their first digital camera.

Ask them what features they like or dislike about it and if they would recommend buying it. Make a note of the features you think you must have and those that would be nice to have. This will help you in deciding between different models when price becomes an issue. Look also at other brands of comparable cameras that are also rated highly.

Check out our product reports section to help with your decision to buy your first digital camera.

Once you have decided which camera seems to best match your needs, read our article “Right Digital Camera at the Right Price” for further tips.

Managed to get the camera you wanted? Great! You can now proceed to taking pictures to your heart’s content.

To access your images for viewing and possibly editing, you simply download them onto your computer. This may be done either by connecting your digital camera to your PC via a USB cable, or, if you are using a memory card in your camera, by plugging this card into your computer.

You see your photos almost instantly and can decide which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to delete. There’s no waiting around for development of film and then having to develop the entire roll to see which photos you like.

The photos you select can be stored on your PC hard drive or burn them to CD or DVD. You can also upload them to photo sharing sites to share with friends and family over the Internet.

There are great savings as you don’t have to continue buying rolls of film. You can simply delete the pictures off your camera’s memory or wipe your memory card and use it over and over again.

Digital Photography is a great and fascinating hobby which will reward you with wonderful moments which once captured you can keep and enjoy forever.  So if you are still undecided about which will be your first digital camera purchase, I am sure there are sufficient resources on this site to help you with your decision.
